Operating reserve
Planning our electric future: a White Paper for secure, affordable and low-carbon electricity, Glossary, published by the Department of Energy & Climate Change on 14 July 2011, defines operating reserve as: ‘The generating capacity available to the System Operator within a short interval of time to meet demand in case other generation is not available, demand changes unexpectedly or there is another disruption to the supply.’
